Big Rock Exploration was founded in 2010 and has been growing ever since. Big Rock Exploration is a technical consulting firm that is specialized in identifying, exploring and evaluating metals, minerals, energy and other natural resources. Big Rock Exploration provides tailored project solutions on diverse projects through quality scientific investigation. Our vast network of Geoscientists, Project Managers and Field Technicians provide clients with reliable expertise for all kinds of natural resource projects.

Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Big Rock has expanded office locations to Tucson, AZ and Duluth, MN while providing services in Canada, Nevada, Arizona, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and more. Independent Contractors hired by Big Rock are brought on as a contract-basis but have the potential to be brought on as a full-time employee upon the expiration of their contract.

What We Look For: 

Essential Functions:

  1. Support clients throughout their project lifecycle by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality technical work
  2. Support safety principles through utilizing safety documentation, completing safety inspections, attending toolbox meetings, and other related tasks
  3. Various forms of field reconnaissance such as mapping, rock/soil sampling, geophysical surveying, and other forms of technical data collection, etc…
  4. Utilize various geotechnical equipment on field projects and safely operate both on and off-road vehicles
  5. Support claim staking programs with general field labor
  6. Log core samples by interpreting geologic data and reporting data while maintaining QAQC procedures
  7. Assist in preparing core samples to be sent off for lab analyzing by core cutting and processing for shipment
  8. Perform office duties including developing field reports, data management, data analysis, and working with local or remote teams
  9. Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager or as required by business needs

Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Geology or related major for Geoscientist roles
  2. Must be able to do physically demanding work such as walking/hiking up, down, and over rough terrain
  3. Must be able to lift/push/pull at least 50 lbs.
  4. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  5. Able to work in adverse weather conditions
  6. No felonies (For work in Canada)
  7. Must posses a valid driver’s license (and passport for international work)
  8. Able to travel 75% of time, including weekends
  9. Basic knowledge of GIS and other database computer programs
